Anyone who knows my spiritual path knows that I consider myself a Christian Yogic Hindu with Buddhist tendencies. I am called to the stillness of the True Divine self. The self that lies beyond the physical, mental, and material world. It’s there that my happy space resides. I find such peace in the stillness of my own being.
All my life, I have found solace in the zoned-out space of meditation, where I can observe the world and myself from a distance. When I was a kid, I had a natural tendency to meditate. Just sitting in awe of the world around me was where I loved to be.
At Home in the Stillness
As you can imagine, stillness is not a “normal” state of being for children. Most kids like to be busy and active. Not me! My mom would tell me that ever since I was an infant, I would sit for long periods of time looking at a book or a catalog, gazing at the pictures. I was at home in the stillness and the beauty of the moment.
As I got older, I found that I was out of place in the world. The pace was too much, but I had to keep up, move forward, and go out into the “real” world. I struggled and I tried to fit the striving for more mold. It just wasn’t me. For years I pushed hard to find what I already had. The contentment I sought didn’t come from outside myself but from the inside.
My Happy Place
Today, I still love the quiet. The moments of stillness in my yard on a sunny day, bring me great joy. It allows me the opportunity to observe without involvement. I watch the birds as they gather their seeds and bugs. The butterflies are a source of wonder. My windchimes lull me into tranquility. I accept myself more. Not the self of physical form, but the one that is beyond the shell that is my outer self.
One of my favorite spiritual teachers is Mooji. He says…
“The greatest step towards a life of happiness and simplicity is to let go. Trust in the power that is already taking care of you spontaneously without effort.” – Mooji
I wanted to share a few minutes of connection with this inner self with you by recording a meditation for you. The short but powerful video above will help you let go of the thoughts and feelings that keep you harnessed to the material space. Hopefully, you will give yourself a break to experience the observer-self that is the essence of who you are.
