As I was going through my social media newsfeeds yesterday, I came across several articles reporting on the weather conditions all over the United States. Some states are experiencing record low temperatures and many are without power, heat, or any way to meet their basic necessities. In Texas, one of the hardest hit by the freezing weather conditions, 27,000 individuals experienced homelessness on a single night. In our local area of Pierce County, WA alone, there were 1879 homeless people in 2020 who experienced homelessness on one single night. Since then, the numbers have risen and the need for basic necessities have become more urgent than ever, especially during these cold, winter months.
The news prompted me to enter into prayer and to seek guidance on how to best proceed and how we can help in some way. I brought my concerns to the board at Unity of Tacoma and we came up with a plan for extending our outreach to helping the homeless in our community. We decided that we would put together care packages to include some basic necessities to help the homeless.
With the pandemic, we have had limited capabilities to work with each other, we are asking for volunteers who are willing to purchase items to put together a care package (or two +) at their own homes and drop them off at the church at a future to-be-determined date. Once they are at the church, we will be partnering with other local community members who work with the homeless on a regular basis. They will be distributing the care packages to those in the most need.
“Transforming lives, and inspiring people to make a difference” is the mission statement for Unity of Tacoma. This outreach will allow us to spread the love to those who need it most while inspiring people to pitch-in to really make a difference in someone’s life. Will you join us?
We will be having our first online meeting about this outreach project on Wednesday, March 3rd at 6:30 PM. At this meeting, we will be compiling a list of needed items to put in the care packages. If you would like to join us, please contact us. If you aren’t able to make the online meeting but would like to participate, please contact us. There is the perfect job for you and it’s available in Divine order.
The affirmation for this project I chose is from the Daily Word dated September 7, 2001, which is, “Giving to others in loving and kind ways, I am in truth blessing myself also. Because we are all one in Spirit, we share the blessings of Spirit.”
We are truly blessed and move forward to share our abundance…
